THE KNIFIE AWARDS 2011

Knifie was cut up this year.
It was a bit of a lean year so overall there weren't that many highlights, as you can tell by the scores this year. I was trying to cut down on shows, because the repeats are killing me, but after tallying everything up I was surprised to learn that I saw more shows than I thought. The biggest disappointment of the year was the realisation that Impro is so different now that I have trouble relating to it - it was my favourite thing to do, and is the reason I was so passionate about it -. The biggest hook was that it never repeats, and it WAS always funny. Oh well, at least we have that little oasis in the form the Project 52 - Full Body Contact No Love Junior Tennis. The biggest problem I encountered in these awards was, do you give it to the person that was good in a lot of shows, or the person that only did one brilliant stand out show. So in those cases I will award it to one, and mention the other - mentions are practically a win anyhow -.

For a one off show Lawrence was brilliant, but he also backed it up with the great TV series Lawrence Leung's Unbelievable.
For the year, Carlo and Matt stood out.

It was really only between these two. Keria had this sewn up by mid year, but then Zoe came out of nowhere with a last minute show that made the pair unsplittable. Keria had the funnier show, but Zoe's was cleverer and exceptional.

Because of the Long Form format one scene could practically constitute a show, so I separated individual scenes. Out of the 6, 4.5's scored scenes this year, it was that old school style mixed in with young peoples enthusiasm that I remember most.

WINNER - Grant Davies
How do you pick it, I would have them all tied. The biggest problem was the number of appearances, and that made it hard because some nominees were only in a couple of scenes this year. Pat and Ben are great at doing heaps of characters, with Ben being slightly funnier and Pat doing more work. Carlo also had a lot of appearances but he's more the Peoples Player, in that he doesn't worry about the technical aspects but uses every crazy idea he has to get laughs. Edan was very impressive at the start of the year, and Jon is hard to pass up because he has experience and ideas. But player that went beyond the call of duty was Grant, with some Steve Lynch help, that has to be commended, because he single handed turned around 2 Cranston shows to make them more than what they were.

These shows were so surprisingly good that it made life worth living, and must sees for the year.
I must be pretty sick of stand up because nearly all of these are scripted shows.
